Balotelli happy to escape English media, weather and food

Diposting oleh Unknown

(Reuters) - Maverick striker Mario Balotelli said he was relieved to escape the English media, driving, weather and food when the new signing was officially presented by AC Milan on Friday.

"To be a player for Milan has always been my dream so I'm very happy," he told a news conference. "But I prefer playing not talking."

The 22-year-old explained that he was happy to be closer to his family and friends following his move from Manchester City which came after a series of fall-outs with manager Roberto Mancini and some bizarre incidents.

"Now I'm at Milan it's very important above all because I am close to my family and friends. Manchester is not so far but it's not close like Milan," said Balotelli who this week cost the Italian club a fee that media reports have put at 20 million euros ($27.39 million).

The Italy forward mused on the positives and negatives of living in England.

"Good things, only when I get to Carrington to train, so my team mates, my manager, those are the good things. The bad things?...everything else."

Balotelli listed the bad as "the press first, the weather, the food and the way they drive" but said he would miss the Premier League.

"It is an amazing league and I think it's the best, together with the crowd and the pitches," he added. "I don't know for the future if I could go back or not."

Callejon: Messi called Karanka ´Mourinho´s puppet´

Diposting oleh Unknown

Real Madrid forward Jose Callejon says Lionel Messi insulted assistant coach Aitor Karanka by labelling him ‘Mourinho’s puppet’.
The 25-year-old said the Argentine had also approached Arvalo Arbeloa after Wednesday’s 1-1 Copa del Rey draw.
It backed up reports he had a heated exchange with the Spanish defender in the Santiago Bernabeu’s parking area.
“Messi called Karanka ‘Mourinho’s puppet’ and then insulted Arbeloa after the match,” Callejon told reporters at a press conference.
“On the pitch, it is heated and we can understand why people say things they regret later. But that a fellow professional waits for an hour, an hour and a half, to insult a man with his wife is a little much.
“The good guys aren’t always good and the bad guys aren’t always bad.”
Callejon said Real Madrid had improved against Barcelona in recent fixtures, and urged his team-mates to go for victory in the second leg.
“Playing Barcelona is always difficult because they have a lot of possession but we have to go on and give our best in the second leg. We have improved in the last few matches,” he said.
“It was a good result for us. The tie is open. We did not want to concede, but we couldn’t. We have to go to Camp Nou with the intention of reaching the final.”

Copa del Rey: Atletico Madrid 2 Sevilla 1

Diposting oleh Unknown

Two Diego Costa penalties saw Atletico Madrid defeat nine-man Sevilla 2-1 in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final on Friday.
All three goals at Vicente Calderon came from the spot, after the referee had adjudged players from both sides to have handled in the area.
Alvaro Negredo replied for the visitors after Costa’s opener, but Emir Spahic and Fernando Navarro were both dismissed either side of Diego Godin seeing red for the hosts.
Atletico were still without the injured Radamel Falcao and opted for Adrian Lopez to partner Costa up front, whilst the visitors opted for Negredo in a lone role.
Both sides were limited to very few chances in the opening stages of the match, Costa having the first shot off the game, but his effort was always going wide of Beto’s goal.
Next to attack was Arda Turan, his free-kick sailing over the crossbar minutes later as the hosts began to get a hold of the game, but Sevilla were defending well.
The first real chance of the game came through Koke, but after brilliant work by Adrian, the midfielder could only shoot straight at Beto.
Negredo’s shot from distance was acrobatically tipped over by Thibaut Courtois as the visitors ended the half on a high.
The opening goal came on the 48th minute through Costa’s penalty. Spahic handled the ball in the area and was given his marching orders for a second yellow, allowing the Brazilian to put his side ahead from the spot.
But seven minutes later the sides were level through a Negredo penalty. It was a harsh decision as the ball bounced up onto Diego Godin’s arm whilst preventing a goal-bound effort and he was also given a straight red for his troubles.
Ivan Rakitic’s long-range effort went narrowly wide of Courtois’s goal as the tempo of the game increased after the break.
Sevilla were starting to gain control of the game for the first time in the match, and were unlucky to go behind.
A third penalty was awarded after Fernando Navarro was adjudged to have handled in the area with 20 minutes remaining, and Costa duly despatched for his second of the game.
The match ebbed and flowed as the visitors looked for an equaliser, but persistent fouling from Sevilla saw Atletico awarded numerous free-kicks that started to kill time.
One last chance came from Mario Suarez but he headed wide from a Turan cross, meaning Atletico hold a slight advantage ahead of the second leg in a month’s time.

Liverpool-Manchester City Preview

LONDON (SE) - While the tumultuous times of Mario Balotelli may have come to a close at Manchester City, the positive partnership of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge may just be beginning.
Quiet watchers at the end of the transfer window, City again make a bid to cut into their archrivals' lead atop the Premier League table Sunday when they host a Liverpool squad eyeing a run to the top four.
Balotelli, the mercurial Italian striker who created as many headlines for his off-pitch exploits as his on-pitch goal-scoring prowess, departed for AC Milan on Thursday after totaling 30 goals in 80 matches for Manchester City (15-7-2), helping the club win their first Premier League title last season and keeping them in the chase to repeat.
"Being at City was an important part of my life and career," he told the team's official website. "I needed to grow up like a player and as a person and it has been a very good experience for me... I will always have a special place in my heart for City, it is a great club with a great future."
Despite Balotelli's departure, manager Roberto Mancini still has a gifted trio of goal-scorers in Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko, who have combined for 25 of City's 45 goals in league play. None, however, were able to find the back of the net in a scoreless draw Tuesday at Loftus Road versus Queens Park Rangers as City dropped two valuable points to Manchester United in the chase for the title to fall seven back.
"We did everything to win this game but we didn't score," Mancini said. "When you play like this away and you don't win, it's incredible - we lost two points here and against West Ham, today was the same game."
City's defence, though, remained airtight with their fourth consecutive clean sheet and extended their shutout streak in league play to 375 minutes dating back to Russell Martin's goal for Norwich in City's 4-3 win on Dec. 29.
The challenge of unlocking City's backline and beating goalkeeper Joe Hart now falls upon Suarez and Sturridge, who have shown plenty of promise as a tandem for Liverpool (9-8-7) since the latter arrived in January from Chelsea. Sturridge has scored two goals in three matches for the Reds to take some of the burden off Suarez, whose 17 goals in league play trail only Manchester United's Robin van Persie (18).
"Good players will always find half a yard with their partner and I think they've been great so far," Liverpool assistant Colin Pascoe said of Suarez and Sturridge. "Once you put them both together, the football takes over. You see the footballing intelligence and the footballing finesse they both have."
Suarez gave Liverpool an early 1-0 lead Wednesday with his sixth goal in five league matches, but the Reds squandered a two-goal advantage in the final half-hour at the Emirates and settled for a 2-2 draw versus Arsenal. Jordan Henderson scored in the 60th minute, giving him goals in consecutive league matches.
Liverpool enter this match seventh in the table with 35 points, seven behind Tottenham for the fourth and final Champions League spot. While the Reds made one big splash before the transfer deadline in acquiring Coutinho from Inter Milan, the Brazilian forward will not play in this match.
Tevez helped City secure a 2-2 draw at Anfield in the reverse fixture on Aug. 26, netting the equaliser in the 80th minute after Suarez had staked the Reds to a 2-1 lead earlier in the second half. The Argentine has been a thorn in Liverpool's side, netting five goals in eight lifetime league matches.
Manchester City have two wins and a draw without conceding in their last three league matches versus Liverpool at the Etihad.

Soccer-Real playmaker Kaka left in cold after transfer deadline

MADRID, Feb 1 (Reuters) - Kaka's Real Madrid future looked bleak on Friday after a possible move in the January transfer window failed to materialise and coach Jose Mourinho again omitted the Brazil playmaker from his squad.
The 2007 World Player of the Year, who cost Real around 65 million euros ($89 million) when they bought him from AC Milan in 2009, will not even be on the bench for Saturday's La Liga game at Granada.
The 30-year-old Kaka was an unused substitute in Wednesday's King's Cup semi-final first leg draw at home to Barcelona and has only been in Mourinho's starting 11 once in La Liga, twice in the Champions League and once in the Cup this season.
The club said on their website (www.realmadrid.com) that all Mourinho's first-team players, including Kaka, had trained normally on Friday except for Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil who worked in the gym.
Some media reports suggested Kaka might return to Milan in January and the honorary president of the Serie A club, former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, said he was optimistic a deal could be done.
However, no agreement was reached before the window closed at midnight (2300 GMT) on Thursday and Kaka's reported salary of 10 million euros a season represents a significant impediment to any move.
His stint at Real has been disrupted by a number of injuries and when he has played he has only shown flashes of his former brilliance.
Mourinho, who joined Real from Milan's city rivals Inter at the end of the 2009-10 campaign, has generally preferred Germany playmaker Ozil to the Brazilian and the Spanish champions also signed Croatia midfielder Luka Modric in the close season.
